Paul Cooper joined SMS in October 1988 when it was a company of 10 people and is currently Industry & Emerging Solutions Director, Water, Health & Government. He is responsible for Business Development with an emphasis on the industry sectors of Water, Health and Government. Paul is also accountable for bringing emerging and innovative concepts to the firm, that SMS builds its solutions around.
Paul has an IT and Business career of over 25 years and during that period has lead or participated in a number of business and technology innovations and solutions for corporate and blue chip clients with the end user experience at the centre of his focus. Some highlights include leading the architecture effort to design the first standard operating environment to be deployed within a major corporate in Australia. This deployment resulted in a standardised desktop, mail, applications suite and backend mainframe environment being successfully implemented.
More recently, Paul lead the establishment of the Emerging Solutions stream within SMS with a particular emphasis on the potential of Cloud Computing and Social Media to improve work practices and reduce costs.
Paul was previously Managing Director of the SMS UK business and was responsible for development of the successful accounts in that domain and was previously responsible for the Canberra, Government and Telco operations of SMS at various times.
He is also Chair of the Victorian Branch of the Australian Information Industry Association.
Paul has a PhD in Biochemistry from Melbourne University and a Grad Dip in Business from RMIT University.
